Hi I’m Alex, and I’m a Translation Studies student at Cardiff University.
After graduating from degree back in 2015, I started blogging about languages and translation. Sometimes as a student, it’s hard to find articles from your point of view – lots of people can give the benefit of their experience, but what about as it’s actually happening?
My posts are mainly aimed at languages and translation lovers of all ages and from all over the world! As a translation student myself, I hope to encourage more people to study languages at any stage in life and to help them realise the importance of translation day-to-day.
I studied BA Translation at Cardiff and went on to complete two summer internships, transcribing, translating and summarising the essays of Franz Liszt and Johanna Kinkel – these projects are currently ongoing. I also worked on a research project analysing three German plays and their translation into English.
In my daily life I work as a Learning Support Assistant in a Secondary School, helping children with additional needs access mainstream education. I also undertake work as a voluntary translator/proof-reader.
I translate from German into English, and can speak some Spanish and French. My goal is to learn Dutch through reading books!
